Hi, I have tried before on many occassions and I was wondering how you can make your sims swim in the lake, I believe that there is some sort of cheat out there to make it possible, but other than that, I am quite stumped as to how it works.
Thankyou.

Just make sure that you lower the floor of the lake to between 4 and 6 clicks lower than the edge of the lake, place a deck, jutting into the lake, then use 'moveObjects on' to place a diving board and a ladder at the end of the deck, above the lake. Test it with a sim, they should dive straight off, or go down the ladder ( depending on their body skills or personality)....the way they get into the 'lake' is not always smooth, but it does work, and they swim in the ground. I made one on this lot, if you would like to physically see what I've instructed http://thesims2.ea.com/exchange/lot_detail.php?asset_id=299385&asset_type=lot&user_id=385037
Obviously you'll want to paint the terrain to look like a lake as well.

yes, thanks lily. I've always wondered how to do this too. I want to try it for my RPG lot that I'm working on ...since flamingo lives by a lake hehehe.

In Nightlife, I once had my sim swim in one of the Maxis created swimmable sea that's in one of the community lots, and then there was a glitch I think - my sim swam all the way up and now she's swimming even when there's no water so it's getting me really frustrated and trust me it looks really weird.

Hehehe :D Oh dear Joey, can't you get the sim to do another action or just to step out of the pool and everything should be normal again, well hopefully LOL.

If you make a swimmable lake make sure that the sim can only get out of the swimmable area by climbing the pool steps. That's what switches off the swimming animation and starts them walking again. Otherwise the sim will keep swimming forever. I don't know if they can drown in the ground, but if their energy fails while swimming they might.
There are various ways you can block sims from exiting a lake - a slope of more then four clicks, foundation, fence, a uni low fence, trees and shrubs in the way. Basically anything that will stop them walking somewhere will stop them swimming there.
To test your lake is working, put the sim in the lake, and tell them to 'go here' to somewhere on dry land. They should head for the pool ladder first.

That's good advice Jaq, not something I would have thought of.

yeah. I tried it without making sure i had the slope four clicks down and now they are swimming all over the lot - and they refuse to get out- even to use and object, they use it and fall back in. They are all refusing to use the ladder to get out too. Its frustrating and i think i am going to have to kill the whole little sim family lol (they all got in when i wasnt looking)
