body: Live action film version of EA game planned

According to Variety, 20th Century Fox is planning a movie of The Sims after acquiring the rights to the EA franchise.

Steve Asbell will oversee the project for Fox with EA’s Sims studio head Rod Humble. Brian Lynch, who wrote Scary Movie 3, will pen the script of the live action film, but the story is under wraps.

"The Sims has done an interactive version of an old story, which is what it's like to have infinite power and how do you deal with it," said Humble.

"Given that that's an old story, you can imagine how easily that would translate to traditional story telling."

The Sims movie will be written by Brian Lynch, who penned Scary Movie 3 and Helium Dog. Also attached to the project is John Davis, producer of Norbit and Eragon.

Heheh maybe, but then again think of how very many of us there are and who will be seeing it no matter what? LOL

I want plumbobs in the movie! I really don't see how this can work out too well. But who knows, they may be able to pull it off. And even if it does suck there is always Strangerhood to watch.

Haha- when I read the article- the first thing I thought of was that they have to do the plumbbob or any tru sim fan wont be satisfied, lol. Im looking forward to seeing its development, also how they will do it, ect. :)

This is all most likely just a huge rummor. If there is a film coming out (which I doubt) then I'll have to go and see it. ^^

Umm I wonder what that means now that variety has the rights to the franchise. Will it affect us that love the game and create for it? hmm or is it just movie rights? Oh well it'll flop but i'll rent it lol Unless they have some big name actors in it like Angelina Jolie or someone of that calibor. Not going to pay 8+ for a ticket when i can make a movie here, lol besides probably a rumor

Not a rumor. It was announced by EA themselves. But yeah I agree I wouldn't dish out 8 bucks for a ticket either :P

If your interested there is some information over at IMDB Internet Movie Database about it. It doesn't tell a lot other than it is supposed to come out in 2009. It will probably be either a love it or hate it movie. At least that is my thoughts on it. Hopefully it won't be a flop but who knows. Anyway, hope that helps.

Oh my gosh! Yep, I would be right there along with the rest of the sim addicts!!! LOL Of course they would have to hire some of us to make the 'props' and the 'characters' for this movie? Hmmmmm.....

Question: If they are buying the rights so they can make this movie....what will they do to those of us who also have the game, and want to make movies? Will there be some sort of copywright that we won't be able to do it any longer?

What else can Hollywood take from us and cash in on? Video game based Movies does not work and never have. CheeseWiz and crackers, Hollywood can't even get comic books based movies to work and they have COMICBOOKS TO TELL THEM WHAT GOES WHERE!!

Besides, what is the film going to be about? The Goths? The Newbies goes to the store? The Sims, Sims2, and the Sims3 are basicly about people and every day life. With ofcourse, Monsters and Pets. I'm very curious about what the plot, if any, is going to be about. And how badly the people who make it is going to slap the fans of the Sims in the face.

Hey, Hollywood bozos. Can't you ding-a-lings come up with something original for a change? Hasn't the Comic book, 80's television and Video game crazed been milked enough yet?!

And people wonder why I don't watch t.v. or watch movies any more. Needless to say the news of a Sims movie really gets my goat. And the fact that EA is letting them do it kills me! Why?! For the love of it all, WHY?!?! There is such of a thing called greed you stuff shirt #@$%&s!!
