because I just don't think it'd be worth it if I can't make custom content, that's the only thing I really do with the game, creating sims is some of the most fun i've had.

I'm like you ooga booga I want to create and if that is not in the new game then it won't be worth it. But I'll bet Maxis will put that in for all of us.

Well, my bet is, that if Maxis doesnt (which they would be a fool not to) one of the talented creators out there will adapt/create a bodyshop which will allow cc to be made. But, is this the rumor? Has anyone asked Maxis about it?

I have been with the Sims2 community since the first day that Sims2 came onto the scene. So I remember quite well the switch from 2D graphical sims to the 3D Sims2. Boy what a total change. If you have ever played Sims 1, you know the tons of CC that was available for it, and noone wanted to give it up. But when Sims2 came out, millions of Sims games got pulled out of the computer and Sims2 got installed. Noone then thought CC could ever be made, but there was the hope. And then a team of people created Simpe for the community and the rest is woven into gaming history.
But here we are again facing another change over from Sims2 to Sims3. But what we are looking at now, is a whole new ball game. EA has called Sims2 a toy compared to Sims3. The Sims3 game is not working at all like the Sims2. It is running on a different programing, a self modification game, much like Spore. If you want to get a basic idea of how Sims3 will be, buy Spore. There are modification tools in the game that allow you to make the sim, make the home, modify the furniture, ect.
In short the community is being transferred into an exchange community like Spore, that is the way EA intended it all along. So what that basically means is that everyone using the game modification tools will be able to be a creator and share their creations much like you share Spore Creations.
It is a whole new ball game. Will there be a Simpe 3 down the road. That is very hard to say at this point. But I can tell you one thing, nothing is impossible. But having the technology that EA Games is now using to make such a CC creator is another. Since Spore is working off PNG files, I assume that is the technology we will be dealing with. But since all of us can only guess at this point, we will just have to keep a close eye on EA Games and what they say. But I do recall some conversations along these lines when Sims2 came out as well.
The Sims3 is comming out Feb. of 2009, so the wait is not to far away. If you want my personal opinion, I would say we are in a whole new field of play and creating. The Community is transforming into a exchange community where everyone can be a creator. And that means it will not be like the Sims2 Community at least as far as Simpe goes. I assume there will be many that transfer over to Sims3 and there will be the loyal that remain to the Sims2. All we can do is wait and see.
As a CC Creator for the Sims2, I will try Sims3 and see what happens. Will I leave Sims2? That really remains to be seen. But I do like the way Spore is done, and if that is any indication how Sims3 will be, It may proove to be worth the switch. If not, there is no law that says you can't stay with Sims2 and remain a loyal Sims2 Creator. There are those who are still loyal to the Sims1. I guess everyone will have to make that decision when the time arrives to.
I will say what I said with the Sims1 regarding CC....there is always hope, even in the darkest of times.

Well...I think that I will not buy it. There's no CAS like in Sims 2, building of home is different and there's no NEEDS like in Sims 2. It's good if you can make your own recolor but for making new objects we will need to wait for new SimPe. I was playing Sims 1 and now Sims 2, graphic is better and these two games are very alike, but Sims 3 is very different than Sims 1 and Sims 2. I will be very happy if Maxis will give to us tools for making Sims 2 objects for download free. I will never leave Sims 2...:)

I dont know the details about creation in sims 3, but if they dont have some editor program, I would just wait for some clever person to make something like simpe for sims 3, it might happen, some people like a challenge for the fun of it. But I will get sims 3 just because I like the sims game lines in general, it was an awesome unknown territory leaving sims 1, I had alot of cc I made and aquired countless days from, like many, many others here. So I expect that it will be similar experience for the newer sims game. A break into the unknown, a chance to be the "first" to start custom stuff (wont happen on my end, lol, Im not blessed with programming skills), and just a nice new game to play. Im really happy with the sims 2 and will probably still devote my time to it rather than sims 3, theres still so much to do and see in sims 2 that I have yet to experience. :3
On a side note, this makes me think of the game Creatures. Played creatures 1 and it was fun but creatures 2 really let loose on custom stuff, its my fave one. Creatures 3 looked shiny and new but I wasnt impressed with the graphics and playability. Im sure they have really outdone themselves on sims 3 as evidenced by Spore, so Im just excited to see a new evolution, though I would be happier if they expanded upon bodyshop (like resizing the window nicer) and abilities to put files in collections instead of doing it ingame. :3

My only reason to not get 3 is that I'd have to buy a new PC just to play it. Otherwise, I'd be more than happy to work in an environment that is far less prone to bugs than TS2.

I might get it, but I'm still trying to put my medieval/fantasy hoods together and the fun hasn't warn off yet. Then there probably wont be any medieval stuff for Sims 3, and then maybe someone will start making it, but it would probably take quite a while.
And then about you can customize there bodyshapes in the game and all, how will that effect custom clothes creation?
Would it be non-existant? And knowing maxis I'd just be stuck with mini-skirts, and skin tight jeans, for my ladies, with no hope of recolor Ugh! I get dizzy just thinking about it.
